PMO
P4MGO!® PMO
Management Offices
They provide support and secretariat services to the change methodologies, without deciding or executing.
The offices are the support of the methodologies they serve. They neither direct nor decide. They sustain the method, consolidate information, relieve managers of administrative tasks and are the only function in the organization that must justify its existence every year.
Support, not direction
That information reaches decision makers.
The Management Offices act only in change: they have no remit in run, which is why there are no service or process offices. Nor do they decide or execute. The moment an office prioritizes initiatives or approves changes, it encroaches on the domain of those who decide.
Their role is to ensure that information reaches decision makers with the quality and frequency each decision requires.
“The Center of Excellence is what every Management Office aspires to become.”
Four offices, one for each change methodology
- Portfolio Management Office (PfMO)
- Program Management Office (PgMO)
- Project Management Office (PjMO)
- Digital Product Management Office (PdMO)
The two tracks
Those who manage and those who govern require different training.
Those who govern are accountable for doing the right things; those who manage are accountable for doing things right.
Managers track
P4MGO!® PMO Management Offices Manager
For professionals responsible for managing. They decide autonomously on everything within their authority and tolerances, prepare, with their recommendation, the decisions that are not theirs to make, and are accountable for their management to the Owner.
Owners track
P4MGO!® PMO Management Offices Owner
For professionals responsible for leading. They are accountable for the outcome to whoever delegated to them, decide under delegation from Governance within their remit, approve what the Manager escalates to them and are accountable for ensuring the initiative remains justified.
